Baling A fleet of latest generation high output big balers working on behalf of Northern Straw ensure the straw is baled as soon after the combine as possible. The balers are constantly monitored to reflect local conditions and ensure optimum efficiency. |
Chasing Northern Straw pioneered the development of the revolutionary Heath SuperChaser range; the one machine which loads, transports and stacks. The majority of our acreage is cleared by the Superchasers which are able to clear over 100 acres in a 12 hour shift. The machine can and does operate 24 hours a day during peak periods with minimum field compaction. The ever decreasing window between combining and autumn cultivation is not a problem for Northern Straw’s Farmers |
After Harvest Chaser stacks are built on an area designated by the farmer. With the farmer’s agreement they will remain on the land until they are transported to the customer. Such stacks are high stacked using Northern Straw’s fleet of telescopic handlers which can build stacks 8 high to prevent rain damage and leave a tidy stack. When the stack is dismantled our company policy is to leave the site tidy. |
Quality Control Quality control is the key to producing a marketable product. Northern Straw rewards it’s baling contractors on the basis of both weight and moisture content. We designed a purpose built bale weigher which is used during harvest to check the weight of bales in the field; at the same time our fields people test for bale size and moisture using a hand held moisture meter |
Haulage Northern Straw operates a fleet of specialist lorry & trailers and articulated vehicles from its bases in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. Every week of the year these vehicles move large numbers of bales from field to store and from store to the customer. This allows for great flexibility to accommodate each farmer’s individual requirements regarding stack clearance. We are suppliers of twine by the pallet and the Delmhorst range of moisture meters |
